The most awaited drama for all You’re Beautiful (YAB) fans and ShinHwa Couple (Park Shin Hye – Jeong Yong Hwa) shippers likewise, is finally here. Just like YAB, this is yet another behind-the scene story of a group of music enthusiasts, sets at a music academy. Although Park Shin Hye might have had a pleasant time under the protection of a passionate and attentive Jeong Yong Hwa in the late 2009’s hit drama, she is having a hell of a time in Heartstrings, their first ever drama as an on-screen couple, because in contrary, her angel has turned into an evil.
Heartstrings or its Korean title, Neon Naege Banhaesseo (You’ve Fallen For Me) portrays the story of Lee Gyu Won (Park Shin Hye), a student from the traditional music department who does not only fall for Lee Sin, a modern music major who is also a popular singer for a rock band, but at the same time fall for modern music when she is casted to perform at a musical drama for the academy’s centennial anniversary performance. Despite knowing that she will receive strong resistance from her ever-controlling grandfather who wishes to see her excel in the traditional music field, the same area he is a master in, she embarks on her own journey of self-discovery. She learns to love, and to survive in this new challenging world of modern music.
YAB die-hard fans and ShinHwa Couple shippers, however, should not set their expectations too high because despite being one of the most anticipated dramas of year 2011, the storyline is a bit flat and pretty much predictable. Nevertheless, there are plenty of enjoyable characters with interesting plots which will keep the viewers entertained. Besides the lead couple, there are a number of other talented stars who shine throughout the whole drama, bringing their own stories into the drama. Its list of official soundtracks is also a top notch, as expected from such drama. And, its fusion composition which incorporates traditional and modern instruments is the highlight of this drama, giving out a unique yet outstanding performance. Therefore, this is a must-see drama for all music fans.
Overall Drama Rating: 7/10
